What Is Sculptra?
Sculptra is one of the latest and most innovative skin volume enhancers. Its role is to stimulate the dermis to produce new collagen and other connective tissue elements.
Collagen is a natural protein produced by the body which provides the skin with structure and strength. Collagen is produced and broken down in the dermis. Over time, the dermis of the skin becomes thinner which leads to a sagging of the skin, forming wrinkles. As you get older,the body's ability to produce its own collagen decreases. Sculptra corrects the loss of skin volume by stimulaing the cells (fibroblasts) that create the products that make up the structure of deep skin.
How Can This Treatment Help My Skin?
Wrinkles and creases are smoothed and your skin will regain a firm and youthful appearance. Often, not only are the wrinkles, sagging and folds reduced, but there is a significant improvement in the skin texture around the whole area injected. The process of fibrobalst stimulation and deep skin production is quite slow and gradual, but very natural and long lasting.
What Areas Can This Be Used For?
Best results are found for area of volume loss. This can be associated with:
· The major lines that run between the
nose and mouth
· Wrinkles in cheeks and chin
· Lines running onwards vertically from
the corners of the mouth
· Laughter lines around the eyes
· Hollows under the eyes
· Frown lines between the eyes
· Lip borders and upper lip lines
· Hollow cheeks
· Acne scarring
This is not the best treatment for creases and wrinkles but as the skin tissue becomes fuller, the wrinkles and creases become shallower and less apparent
How Many Treatments Will You Need?
The number of treatments required will depend on the degree of collagen loss present and the age of the client. The treaments are performed aproximately 3 months apart. The treatments rebuild some of the lost structure of the face which arises due to the ageing process.
However, the number of treatments you'll need will vary depending on your age, how deep your wrinkles are. Generally speaking, two to four treatments may be required to achieve the desired results.
How Long Will The Effects Last?
Unlike other dermal fillers, once your Sculptra treatment is completed, results may last for more than 1 1/2 years.
