As a result of age, sun damage, worry, gravity and other environmental factors, our facial skin begins to develop lines and wrinkles.

This is a manifestation of ageing of the skin and of a reduction in the collagen and elastic framework of the skin, it is possible to smooth out folds and wrinkles using a Dermal Filler which a product is injected just under the skin.

Smoothing out folds and wrinkles of the skin to give a more relaxed and youthful appearance.

How Do Dermal Fillers Work?

We use 3 types of Dermal Fillers: Collagen, ( Bovine and Human), and Hylaform  (See individual headings on this website)

The chosen filler material is injected into the lines and defects to produce a smoother surface of the skin.

Collagen is a protein that provides your skin with structural support.

Hylaform gel adds volume to your skin by attracting and binding water and mimicking the hydrating effects of your skin, producing a lift and firmness to the treated areas.

The appropriate filler material is introduced into the skin by a simple injection technique, with or without local anaesthesia.

Which Areas Can Be Treated Using Dermal Fillers?

Dermal fillers can be used any where there is a defect on the skins surface, It is largely used on the face, especially for filling out lines and wrinkles around the mouth, eyes, nose and forehead.

Dermal filler can also be use to augment the lips and give  greater volume and a fuller appearance. This procedure also enhances the definition of your lips and helps in the reduction of lipstick bleed by filling those vertical lip lines.

The contours of your face can also be improved by treating the naso labial lines and the marionette lines

The exact type of filler chosen will depend on the site of treatment and the degree of correction required. Dr Miller will advise you of the most appropriate filler for your desired look.

How Long Does The Treatment Take?

Treatments usually take around 30 minutes.

A local anaesthetic injection is usually given for lip enhancements to remove any discomfort associated with treatment at this site.

How Long Does The Treatment Last?

The results of the treatment can last 6 - 9 months but this varies from one individual to another and the site being treated It also depends on which product is used.

The filler is gradually broken down and absorbed by the body so the lines, wrinkles or lips will ultimately return to their previous appearance unless top up treatments are given. There are now some semi-permanent or even permanent dermal fillers available producing long lasting results.

Are Dermal Fillers Safe?

The modern synthetically produced dermal fillers are extremely safe with a low incidence of allergic reaction. The possibility of allergic reaction will be discussed with you at your consultation.

There is usually some degree of redness and swelling after the treatment, which usually resolves within 1-2 days. In the case of lip augmentation there may be some minimal pain, swelling and bruising for several days.
