There are many Dermal Fillers on the market but the original one and most widely known is Collagen. Until 2006 bovine collagen, (Zyderm and Zyplast), was the only collagen available for the cosmetic market in Australia. The major disadvantage to bovine collagen was that 3% of people are allergic to it. A test dose was always used and undesirable 4 week waiting period was required.
Today synthetically derived human collagen, (Cosmoderm and Cosmoplast) is available. This is a marvelous product with no allergies reported. It can be used on the day of the initial consultation allowing you to look great at an important impromptu function.
What Is Collagen?
Collagen is a protein which naturally forms chains. There are a number of types of collagen and it is an integral component of muscle, tendon and bone as well as skin. Collagen provides structure and strength to your skin.
In your youth, skin has an abundance of three important substances, collagen, elastin and hyaluronic acid, keeping your skin looking smooth, resilient and fresh.
The skin uses the collagen chains to provide strength and structure to the skin. Hyluronic acid binds water and it acts like a "cotton wool" between the fibers of collagen. Elastin role is to return deformations of the skin back to to its normal arrangement.
As you get older, and suffer solar damage, we loose these components of the skin, and the skin becomes thiner, loses volume, its elasticity fails, and unwelcome lines and wrinkles appear.
You can temporarily replace this loss by using Collagen and/or and Hylaform to smooth away unwanted lines and wrinkles.
How Can This Help My Skin?
Collagen placed just beneath the top layers of the skin blends with your own collagen to fill lines in many areas, improving the skin's contour, and reducing depressions in the skin due to scars, injury or lines.
Collagen also adds volume and definition to lips.
What Can This Be Used For?
Collagen implants can be used for:
· Smile lines
· Lip border
· Vertical lip lines
· Marionette lines
· Acne scars frown lines
· Crow’s feet
What Is The Procedure?
These procedures are quick and simple. An injection is given just below the surface of the skin. The collagen contains a local anaesthetic and a thin needle is used ensuring minimal discomfort. The results are immediate, discreet and there is little or no recovery time.
How Long Does The Treatment Last?
The results are temporary as both substances will gradually break down and be naturally absorbed by your body.
Generally, treatments are given 2-3 times per year to sustain the result.
